Coronavirus: Government advice for work carried out in people's homes

As a country, we all need to do what we can to reduce the spread of coronavirus. On 23 March the government stepped up measures to prevent the spread and save lives.

Here at PlusHeat, we've been following this guidance closely and are keeping up to date with the latest advice to ensure we are the best place to serve and protect you, our customers, as well as the general public.

What does this mean for your home emergency?

In line with the most recent guidance, we wanted to share what this means for you.

As a PlusHeat customer, you should know...

  • We are working hard to keep your home warm and safe by taking measures to protect our workers and minimise contact wherever possible.

  • At this time, we kindly ask you to only report emergency issues and breakdowns so that we can prioritise urgent works and our most vulnerable customers. We understand everyone's circumstances are different, so if the job is urgent to you then please let us know.

  • We are putting Annual Boiler services on hold until May when we will reassess the situation.

  • Our engineers are surveyed when accepting work to ensure they are in good health and have been provided with safety equipment to minimise the risk of contamination. Please help us take care of our staff and you by keeping a safe distance (2 metres).

  • We are also available from 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday on our live website chat which may be the quickest and easiest way to contact us should you have any questions.

Here's what we've told our PlusHeat engineers...

  • At this time, we will ONLY accept jobs where there is an emergency or breakdown.

  • Before assigning you to a job, we will ask you some questions about your own health. Please do not be offended. We are doing the same for our customers to ensure your safety as well. You must NOT agree to conduct repairs of maintenance if you are unwell or have symptoms, however mild.

  • If you do visit a customers home, please keep a safe distance (2 metres) to minimise the risk of contamination. The same information is being given to our customers.

  • Before and after entering a property for emergency repairs, ensure you wash your hands with soap and water or hand gel for a minimum of 20 seconds.

  • No work should be carried out in any household which is isolating or where an individual is being shielded, unless it is to remedy a direct risk to the safety of the household, such as emergency plumbing or repairs, and where the tradesperson is willing to do so.

  • In such cases, Public Health England can provide advice to tradespeople and households. No work should be carried out by a tradesperson who has coronavirus symptoms, however mild.
